In the last two weeks, I have experienced something I never had the opportunity to do before, and if you know a little about Filipino culture, you will understand what a giant step I have taken. My husband and I are now visiting El Tamaduste, a small village by a natural pool on the northeast rocky lava coast of El Hierro.
The air and water are clean, and the deep and soft silence gives life a dimension of the infinite, just like the magnificent starry sky here due to the absence of light pollution.
I was raised in the chaos of people, noise, pollution, and hard toil, and to be on the absolute opposite end of the scale is mind-blowing. I could not have managed it alone, but guided by my husband’s experience, I can live a life that heals both of us. I have had asthma since I was a kid, and Eldar contracted a chronic sore throat in Davao as a result of allergies and pollution. This is the main reason why we left the Philippines.
We have been on a trip to Norway. We lived six months in La Herradura on the mainland, and my husband’s chronic sore throat was reduced to irritation, but it was still annoying. So now we are on a small volcanic island on the edge of Europe. Our hope is that he will be healed while we are here. He is already feeling better.
The cold that comes with the wind and the mist is a challenge for me. There is no heating in the houses here, and sometimes I feel a little miserable, but the sun is never far away, and I’m feeling stronger and healthier than ever.
Life is strange; a sore throat has taken me far away from home. I’m learning a new language and exploring magnificent surroundings.
Here are some photos of El Tamaduste:
