The carnival in Icod de Los Vinos may not be among the grandest in Tenerife, but the vibrant joy is as colorful as can be. The locals love to party, and many volunteers make great efforts to maintain the significant Latin American influence.
This winter has been colder than usual on the northwest coast of Tenerife. February started off poorly with cold northern winds, rain, and temperatures dropping to 9ºC. Some carnival events had to be canceled due to bad weather, and everything seemed rather gloomy. But not for long— the weather changed, and suddenly, an explosion of music, costumes, and dance filled the streets. The sun shone on a snow-covered Mount Teide, and our little community at its foot shifted into party mode. My husband took many photos, and I’m delighted to share them with you.
