Barcelona: The Number One City of My Dreams

I have always wanted to visit the number one city of my dreams, Barcelona, and now I’m here for a week. The September weather is fine, and this fascinating metropolis is perfect for ushering in a new chapter of my European adventure.

My husband and I spent three months last winter in El Hierro, the smallest of the Canary Islands. We loved the eternal spring weather and the dramatic lava landscapes. We have decided to return to the largest of the islands, Tenerife, to find a permanent place. But first, we spent one week in Barcelona, where we celebrated my birthday and three years of marriage on the day of our arrival.

We are living close to the famous La Barceloneta beach in a small, cozy flat owned by the Writers Guild of Norway. As a member, my husband can use the flat when it’s available, and luckily enough, it was free on some perfect dates for us.

Old buildings and narrow streets surround the beach. Restaurants are everywhere, and the quality of the food is fantastic. The studio flat felt like home immediately. It is cozy and minimalist, a typical writer’s cave on the top of an old building on a narrow street. It is located in the middle of everything, but still very quiet. Silence and an old-style building with history on the walls create a calm atmosphere. It is a perfect place to digest the impressive bombardment of a big city.

The most important place for me in Barcelona is the fantastic La Sagrada Família. I felt I was surrounded by a magical feeling of universal love and I will tell more about it in my next post.
