Eldar Einarson’s Art Exhibition in Norway (Part 2)

A Personal Journey Through Loneliness, Hope, and Joy

With only a day remaining before my husband Eldar Einarson’s exhibition opens in Norway on June 22, the preparations are coming together nicely.

In my previous article, I followed Eldar’s journey from Bangkok back to Norway, where he reunited with old friends in Kragerø, solved practical challenges, and managed to get every artwork ready for display.

Like many others, I admire his determination. At 79 years old, he still approaches projects with the same energy, curiosity, and problem-solving spirit that have followed him throughout his life. I have always known him as a skilled and very kind craftsman, an inventor of practical solutions, and someone who rarely gives up when faced with obstacles.

But when I look at these artworks, I see something more.

I see the questions he has carried with him through decades of life experience. I see reflections on loneliness, hope, human resilience, and our need for connection with one another. Beneath the colours, symbols, animals, and dreamlike imagery, I find a deeply personal journey.

His style is highly personal, and while Eldar often speaks about visual storytelling, I experience the images less as statements and more as conversations. They invite us to pause, reflect, smile, and perhaps recognise something of ourselves.

As the opening approaches, I would like to share some of my own thoughts about the main works in the exhibition and what I believe connects them into a larger story.

When I look at these artworks, I do not primarily see technology or techniques.

I see a journey.

The journey begins in silence.

BLUE SILENCE. 50 × 75 cm. Fine Art Archival Pigment Print on ILFORD Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss, mounted on aluminium composite using archival materials

In Blue Silence, a lone boat rests on a calm blue sea. The image feels simple, yet it speaks about something deeply human. Parts of every journey must be travelled alone.

GOLDEN RATIO. 50 × 75 cm. Fine Art Archival Pigment Print on ILFORD Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss, mounted on aluminium composite using archival materials

Throughout history, human beings have looked up at the same moon and asked the same questions: Why are we here? What gives life meaning? Where are we heading?

From there, the exhibition moves into the realm of dreams and imagination.

ASCENSION. 60 × 60 cm. Fine Art Archival Pigment Print on ILFORD Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss, mounted on aluminium composite using archival materials

In Ascension, the winged horse rises from the clouds as a symbol of hope, freedom, and the belief that change is possible. Even when life feels uncertain, something within us continues to reach upward.

But hope exists alongside reality.

INHERITED FIRE. 50 × 50 cm. UV print on brushed aluminium

In Inherited Fire, we are reminded that humanity often repeats the same mistakes from generation to generation. Conflict, fear, and destruction return in different forms. Yet something remarkable also returns: the willingness to rebuild, to begin again, and to hope that the future can become better than the past.

That journey then becomes more personal and playful.

CARROT ON THE TABLE. 60 × 54 cm. Fine Art Archival Pigment Print on ILFORD Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss, mounted on aluminium composite using archival materials

Carrot on the Table is humorous and familiar. Desire, expectation, disappointment, and companionship are experiences shared by all living beings. Through animals, Eldar often reflects aspects of ourselves.

EARLY ARRIVAL. 50 × 75 cm. Fine Art Archival Pigment Print on ILFORD Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss, mounted on aluminium composite using archival materials

The works that follow continue this exploration through a colourful and imaginative world of horses, mules, donkeys, wine, and visual storytelling. At first glance, they may appear light-hearted, but beneath the humour lie many of the same questions raised by the main works.

How do we find meaning?

How do we live with uncertainty?

How do we preserve our humanity when the future remains unknown?

What connects all these images is a simple belief: joy is not the opposite of seriousness. Joy is what helps us carry seriousness. It gives us strength to continue when life becomes difficult and reminds us that beauty, humour, friendship, and wonder remain possible even during uncertain times.

Along the way we meet other travellers, often only briefly. Yet it is these moments of connection that give the journey meaning. Through kindness, understanding, compassion, and shared experience, we discover that we are not entirely alone.

Perhaps that is where hope ultimately lives.

Not in certainty about where the road leads, but in the way we walk it together.
