The rugged volcanic coast of Northern Tenerife can be tough. There are only a few places for the local fishermen to secure their boats during bad weather. In the old days, they pulled the boats up on the beach. But when the tourists arrived, the beaches became more valuable as playgrounds, and the fishermen had to be inventive to survive.
My husband and I have slowly started exploring our new home’s surroundings. Yesterday, we walked down to the beach of San Marcos. It is in a small natural bay, a 35-minute walk from where we live in the center of Icod de Los Vinos. It’s also the docking site for the local fishermen, and I discovered something I have never seen before.
