A Short Visit to Kragerø – Part 3: Jomfruland, A Walk on Virgin Land

Home » Blog » Travel Journal » A Short Visit to Kragerø – Part 3: Jomfruland, A Walk on Virgin Land

After our visit to the exhibit of Odd Einarson and the gallery of Christina Soot Kløvig, we got invited to Jomfruland, an island that is a one-hour ferry ride from Kragerø mainland.

Jomfruland is one of the most beautiful places in Southern Norway.  The island was formed during the very end of the last ice age. The ice brought stones with it on its journey out to the sea. We had a long walk there and it was a nice feeling to commune with this fantastic and pleasant landscape on the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean.

The pictures we took can best explain the beauty of the moraine island named in a direct translation to English as “Virgin Land”.

Getting closer and closer to Jomfruland:

Friends of my husband who have a summer house near us in Spain shows us around. They also have a summer house in Jomfruland and lives close to the famous oak forest we have to pass on our way out to the open sea
